Biomedical engineering methods often have to travel across disciplines: biology, engineering, materials science, imaging, devices, and data analysis. These methods shape how researchers develop tools for diagnosis, treatment, and modeling of diseases.
Methods in complex fields are difficult to transfer through text alone. A reader may understand the protocol, but still need to see the setup, handling, and decision points that affect whether the method works reliably.

### Why Visual Context Matters in Complex Protocols
- ▪️
**The setup carries important information**
In biomedical engineering, the experimental setup is often **part of the method itself**. A scaffold, device, imaging system, or testing platform may need to be positioned or assembled in a very specific way.
Video helps readers see the physical arrangement behind the protocol, not just the sequence of steps.
- ▪️
**Artifacts often appear at technique-sensitive points**
Artifacts can come from **small differences** in handling, alignment, seeding, washing, imaging, or measurement. These details may be familiar to the original lab but harder for another team to **infer from text**.
Showing these steps helps authors make the artifact-prone parts of the method **easier to recognize and repeat**.
- ▪️
**Different readers bring different assumptions**
A biomedical engineering article may reach biologists, clinicians, engineers, materials scientists, or imaging specialists. Each reader may understand one part of the workflow well and need **more context** for another.
A visual article can help **align those perspectives** by showing how the biological, technical, and analytical parts of the method **fit together**.

**The method becomes easier to teach and reuse**
For complex workflows, the publication can become more than a record of the experiment. This supports reduced trial and error, **stronger reproducibility**, and more practical use after publication.

### Preserve the Decisions Behind the Method
In complex fields, a method is shaped by more than its final steps. An **optimized approach** comes from decisions that prevent artifacts, reduce variability, and make the work usable by another team.
These decisions are often **part of a lab’s practical knowledge**. Video publication provides a way to **preserve that knowledge** alongside the written article, so other researchers can learn from it, train with it, and **build on it more reliably**.
