With the annual Society for Neuroscience meeting upon us again this weekend, we turned to JoVE: Neuroscience for some insight about how our videos are helping scientists at the bench. Dr. Leonard Khiroug, Professor of Neuroscience at the University of Helsinki and a 4-time JoVE author, recently shared an earth-shattering finding with us about efficiency. “By using JoVE,” he said, “our lab was able to learn a new surgical technique in 2 weeks instead of the estimated year it would have taken without JoVE.” Do you realize that’s a 96% increase in efficiency? NINETY SIX PERCENT, people. That’s huge!
Would you like to do things 96% faster? Of course you would. Take your half hour commute to work, for example. With time-saving super powers like Dr. Khiroug has, it would take you 1 minute and 12 seconds door to door. An hour for the dishwasher, you say? Try 2½ minutes until your dishes are sparkling clean. Your 90 minutes spent doing laundry on Saturday would be condensed down to 3.6 minutes, meaning you could partake in the ultimate weekend indulgence of Double Brunch and no one could say anything about it.
With the ability to learn new techniques in 1/26th of the time as compared to traditional learning methods, we assume you’re going to be overwhelmed by the sheer volume of extra hours you’ll amass. To help you fill in this newfound vacancy in your day, we’ve compiled a playlist for you. It’s roughly 96% of an hour long (that’s 57 minutes and 36 seconds for the math illiterates out there) and, naturally, it’s comprised of songs all about time. Enjoy!
