As JoVE is celebrating it's tenth anniversary this year, we take this opportunity to highlight the top 10 reasons scientists should consider for publishing in JoVE Video Journal.

1. Standardize your method: A picture is worth a thousand words and a video may do away with words altogether.  JoVE Video Articles help you explain technical tricks and nuanced details in a way that cannot be explained by text. JoVE Video Articles are also a great way to standardize a methodology in your field. This is especially useful if multiple centers are engaged in gathering and analyzing the data.

2. Cite your JoVE Video Article to make your data more reproducible: JoVE Video Articles are an excellent resource to cite in text articles. They aid in making the data more transparent and reproducible.

3. Complement your data articles with JoVE: JoVE Video Articles are a perfect complement to your results-based publications in order to actually explain how you assembled the data.

4. Explain methods to your colleagues without hosting them in the lab: For many JoVE authors, this is a great way to explain their complex methodology efficiently, instead of hosting a colleague in their lab for a week or two.

5. Good teaching tool: JoVE Video Articles are excellent teaching tools, particularly for courses focused on laboratory methods. The scientists do not have to commit the tricky details to memory and the entire community can benefit regardless of whether they attended the course.

6. Access to a professionally produced video for use in conferences and seminars: Authors can use the videos or video clips in their presentations to make talks more engaging and explain data more easily.

7. Helps use fewer resources: If an experiment starts working faster, fewer resources are used, possibly including laboratory animals. This is a key advantage that JoVE video articles have over traditional text publications.

8. Help your colleagues: It can sometimes take weeks or months to establish a method in a lab despite the technique being functional elsewhere. JoVE provides a simple and elegant solution to this age-old problem. We receive constant feedback from users declaring that JoVE videos were invaluable in getting an experiment to work successfully in the lab.

9. Your method gains greater usage: Often times, scientists avoid doing a new experiment because the text description sounds too complicated. JoVE videos help demystify your method and more scientists are inclined to give it a try.

10. Get Sighted: JoVE videos help you showcase your technical expertise and also are a useful resource for your colleagues to cite when they publish their data.

Okay, here is an eleventh reason.  It helps you preserve your expertise in your lab. You do not have to establish your method all over again once your talented scientists leave the lab.
